FROM AUGUST 25TH TO SEPTEMBER 13TH MONACO WILL BE THE FIRST COUNTRY ON EARTH ABLE TO SEE THE MOST COMPLETE PHOTOGRAPH OF THE UNIVERSE EVER ATTEMPTED.
UNESCO has determined that 2009 will be the ‘Year of Astronomy”. In response to this decree, and in his determination to encourage all aspects of exploration and ecology, H.S.H. Prince Albert II has agreed to give his Patronage to the exposition of the most incredible photograph of the universe ever seen.
The photograph can be experienced free in the Atrium of the Monte Carlo Casino from the 25th September to the 14th of October.
Called the ‘Mille Millards de mondes” the photo:
- Shows the centre of our ‘Milky Way’ as seen from the southern hemisphere (Specifically from plateaus in the Atacama desert of Chile – one of world’s clearest skies).
- It is over 72 metres square, contains many millions of pixels and required hundreds of hours of the most painstaking merging of 1200 individual takes.
Nothing like this has ever been attempted before. Nothing like it has ever been exhibited before". Said Astronaut Buzz Aldrin on his recent visit to Monaco:
“I have not seen anything like this since my days in space”
He asked for a copy for his own office !*
Alongside the giant photo itself will be an exhibition showing how the Endeavour was conceived and produced.
Bringing “Mille milliards de mondes” as world exclusive to Monaco is a collaborative effort organized by the Lions Club of Monaco www.lions-monaco.com
Supported by photographic expertise of Studio Realis.
